Benevon Workshop Reference Policy

As a training organization for nonprofits, Benevon relies on the generosity of its alumni to fulfill inquiries for all reference requests. In order to ensure the best use of their valuable time, we require that your organization meet the following criteria in order to request a reference:

Criteria for Requesting a Reference

  • Your executive director, development director, and at least one of your key board members must have expressed serious interest in participating in one of our two-day workshops and must have attended an in-person Introductory Session, viewed the online video "Seventeen Minutes to Sustainable Funding," attended a Sustainable Funding Conference Call, or viewed the Introduction to Raising More Money video or DVD.

  • By requesting references, you are agreeing to contact the reference within ten business days of receiving their contact information.

  • We request that you ask references to speak about their experiences with Benevon and the implementation of this model at their organization, but please refrain from asking "coaching" questions, as the references are not Benevon staff members. (Example of a "coaching" question: "How would you create a Point of Entry® for my organization?")

How to Meet These Criteria

Immediate Examples and Preliminary Research

  • If you are looking for immediate examples of nonprofit organizations that have successfully implemented the Benevon Model, please visit our Testimonials Web page.

  • If you are doing preliminary research about the appropriateness of this model for your organization, you may find the answers to your questions in our Model Overview or our online Archives.

How to Request a Reference
If your organization has met the above criteria and is strongly considering attending a Benevon 101 Workshop, but you feel the need to speak personally with someone from an organization that has completed our Benevon 101 Workshop, please contact your regional representative to place your request for a reference. If you do not yet know who your regional representative is, please contact us at 206-709-9400 or info@benevon.com, and we will put you in touch with your representative.

Permission-Based Policy
In keeping with our belief in permission-based information gathering, Benevon uses as references only those alumni who have volunteered to speak with other organizations. Therefore, we cannot guarantee that we will have a reference from an organization exactly like your own. We will make every effort to match your request to an organization with a similar mission, but we cannot promise regional or budgetary similarities.
