Too Many Fundraisers
Q: What do you do when there are over 80 nonprofits on a 2 x 4 mile island all wanting the same money from the same people? This is what we're faced with on a day-to-day basis. The major fundraiser is an AIDS organization that has a huge fundraising staff that I've been told not to compare ourselves to. They have event after event after event. I'm only one person working for a non-profit that serves families and children. What to do...so many non-profits wanting the same money. Mikel in Florida A: Believe it or not, this is a common concern—in big and small communities, economically depressed or well off. The key solution is to shift your focus away from the amount of money available to be donated, and start looking for people who truly care about your mission and the work you do. Don't worry about how many events other organizations put on—you are only seeking to serve the people who are as passionate about your cause as you are. Start introducing people to your organization, see who would like to become involved. The people who have been to the other fundraisers may find it refreshing that you don’t ask for money right away. This is why the Benevon Model is successful in communities of all sizes. Good luck! Terry |
