At Benevon, we use many special terms and phrases that are crucial for anyone implementing the Benevon Model to understand. We are often asked for definitions of our terms, so we have decided to publish this basic glossary of Benevon phrases here in our E-New$.

| Treasure Map®: |
A brainstorming exercise to identify different groups and people that naturally want to become more involved with your organization |
| Point of Entry® (POE): |
The first step of the Benevon Model—A one-hour introductory event which educates and inspires people about your organization |
| Facts 101: |
The basic facts about your organization that dismantle myths and stereotypes about your organization or work |
| Emotional Hook™: |
The emotional appeal of your work, communicated in personal stories and testimonials |
| Essential Story™: |
One archetypal story that conveys the emotional impact of your work; must be about one individual or family that your work has impacted; moves you every time you tell it |
| Capture Names with Permission: |
The process of collecting the contact information from Point of Entry attendees with their permission and expectation of being contacted |
| One-on-One Point of Entry: |
A two- to three-minute, in-person introduction to your organization; includes the Facts 101 and Emotional Hook, and asks if they would like to receive more information |
| Point of Entry Conversion Event: |
Inserting the Facts 101, Emotional Hook, and Capturing the Names with permission into an existing fundraising event (e.g. golf tournament, auction, etc.) |
| Follow-Up Call: |
The second step of the Benevon Model—A specific, five-point conversation to begin or continue a dialog with every attendee at a Point of Entry; to be made by someone whom the guests met at the Point of Entry; begins the cultivation process |
| Bless and Release: |
Not everyone will be interested in getting involved in your mission; thank those people for speaking with you and/or coming to the Point of Entry, wish them well, and don't ask them for a one-time gift |
| Cultivation Superhighway™: |
Begins with the Follow-Up Call and ends with the Ask; the more personal contacts you have with a potential donor, the more money they will give when you ask; involvement is key |
| Know-Thy-Donor Program™: |
A systematic approach for reconnecting with prior donors, volunteers, or board members and getting them on the Benevon cycle |
| Ask: |
Third step of the Benevon Model—Asking for money can be done one-on-one (in person) or at an Ask Event |
| Free One-Hour Ask Event™: |
Signature Benevon fundraising event; best as breakfast or luncheon; Table Captains invite people personally to sit at their tables; program educates and inspires attendees about the mission of the organization and includes personal testimonials, a seven-minute video, Visionary Leader™ Talk, and Pitch Person to do the Ask |
| Visionary Leader™: |
Founder or executive director, involved in the day-to-day activities of the organization |
| Visionary Leader Talk: |
The Visionary Leader speaks passionately at Point of Entry Events and Ask Events about the past, present, and future of the organization; illustrates the need and the gap |
| Pitch Person: |
Credible, "school-teacher-like" person who is connected to the organization and walks Ask Event guests through the pledge card |
| Multiple-Year Giving Society™: |
Group of donors that have committed to pledge annually for at least five years at one of the Units of Service™ |
| Units of Service: |
Multiple-year giving levels that entitle donors to be part of the Multiple-Year Giving Society |
| Free Feel-Good Cultivation Event™: |
Fourth step in the Benevon Model—An event aimed at current and prior donors as a reward for loyal support; no one is asked to give; serves as Point of Re-Entry to introduce donors to the next phase of your development, such as a capital campaign or endowment |
| Point of Re-Entry Event: |
An opportunity for Multiple-Year Donors to be in the company of fellow donors, get reconnected to your mission, and be introduced to the next phase of your development |
