Selecting the Ask Event Speaker
Q: I have a question regarding our Ask Event™ speaker. We have two choices and we wanted to check with you to see which one you think would be the most effective. One possibility is a pastor from one of the larger churches in our community who is a dynamic speaker and is a zealot for our organization. His passion for us is contagious and he would do an outstanding job. We also could use a prominent person like the University President, Mayor, etc. The outline for the Ask Event program is established and I realize the importance of orchestrating this event. Thank you for your continued care and concern of our organization. Sally in Texas A: The Pitch Person at your Ask Event should be someone credible, with a personal connection to the mission of your organization, who will agree to follow the script. If you are lucky enough to have a truly charismatic speaker who will agree to speak only about your cause, use that person to do all or part of the Visionary Leader talk at the event. Then get another person to do the scripted Ask. It is very important that the Pitch Person walks people through each aspect of the pledge card. By that point in the one-hour program, people should have been sufficiently moved and inspired that they won't need another compelling speaker. They will need a succinct instructional Asker. We tell people in our workshops that the Pitch Person should have the feel of a credible school teacher. Terry |
