Fifteen Things That Perfect Table Captains Do

Having enthusiastic, reliable, passionate Table Captains at your Ask Event will lead to better financial results. What should you look for when you select Table Captains for your Ask Event? Or, if you are a Table Captain, what should you be doing to help your favorite organization as much as possible?

Perfect Table Captains:

  1. Love your organization's mission.

  2. Attend at least one Point of Entry® per year.

  3. Make sure that at least 40% of their Ask Event guests attend a Point of Entry prior to the Ask Event.

  4. Talk about your Ask Event (and your organization) during all times of the year, when they are out with their friends, etc.

  5. Stay in communication with you all year long, especially in the weeks before the Ask Event; they don't mysteriously "disappear" as the event draws near.

  6. Have so many people excited about your group that they ask to take on additional tables.

  7. Aim to have at least one person at their table each year who, in turn, becomes a Table Captain the next year.

  8. Keep being Table Captains for as many years as they like (there are no time limits on Table Captains).

  9. Send in their guest lists on time (three weeks before the Ask Event) with all the details filled out.

  10. Attend the Table Captain kickoff, make a new personal Treasure Map® there, and add new people to their table every year.

  11. Fill their table with 50% new guests each year.

  12. Arrive early on the day of the event to greet their guests.

  13. Invite their guests personally—in person or by phone (no printed invitations).

  14. Follow up to confirm with their guests the day before the event.

  15. Keep in touch with all their guests weekly via e-mail or phone in the eight weeks leading up to the event, sharing enthusiasm and information about the event (like arriving early, where to park, how great the new video will be, etc.).
