Filling Your Point of Entry Events

Q: We have been holding monthly Point of Entry® Events, but the board of our organization has not been referring many people to our Point of Entry. Attendance has been quite low. What should I do?

Jason in California

A: Don't depend on your board alone to fill your Point of Entry Events. Once you get them happening regularly, people will refer others and there should be no need to rely on your board to invite people. The best way to determine who to invite to fill these first Point of Entry Events is to do a Treasure Map®. The Treasure Map exercise will help you pull together a list of your organization's insiders—people who regularly donate their time or money to your organization. These are the people you should be inviting to your early Point of Entry Events. Be sure to properly frame how you invite these people. You might say, "I know you already know about us, but we are starting these tours as a way to really spread our message to the community. This is a big step for us. Please attend and give us your feedback."

Once your insiders see how powerful your Point of Entry is, they will refer other people. Therefore, it is important that you have a dynamic Point of Entry that moves your insiders and inspires them to invite everyone they know to learn more about your organization.
